How tenant insurance providers compare

Premium is the least interesting difference between them. Excess, liability limit and single item cap decide what a claim actually pays.

The providers below are the ones UK tenants encounter most often. Prices are indicative for a one bed flat, 12,000 pounds of contents, single occupant, and will differ for your postcode. Where a link is marked, we earn a commission if you buy, and it costs you nothing extra.

How we compare

What to compare, in order

Excess

A 50 pound excess with a 12 pound premium beats a 5 pound premium with a 500 pound excess the first time a laptop dies.

Liability limit

Compare it against your deposit and the state of the flat. It is the number that decides whether a dispute becomes a claim.

Single item limit

Typically 1,000 to 2,500 pounds. If your laptop or bike is above it, you need it listed, not covered.

Escape of water wording

The most common tenant claim after theft. Some policies exclude damage from gradual leaks entirely.

How this comparison is built

We order by the cover a typical tenant needs, not by commission. We do not accept payment for placement. Commission on links is disclosed on the affiliate disclosure page.
